The brief we hear most from founders looking for an SEO agency Silicon Valley teams already trust is short: rank for the searches our buyers actually type. For a chip designer in Santa Clara, an AI infrastructure startup in Palo Alto, or a developer-tools company in Sunnyvale, those searches are rarely “best software.” They are part numbers, protocol versions, error messages, and comparisons between two products most people have never heard of.

Référenceur handles that kind of search work from Europe. We’re a Belgian and Luxembourgish agency, and our strategists and writers grew up in French and switch to English for most client calls, which matters the moment your roadmap includes France, Belgium, Switzerland, Luxembourg, or Quebec. SEO has been our core business for over 15 years, and 107 Google reviews put us at 4.7/5. We serve U.S. companies at a distance, and the first step is to request a free assessment of where your site ranks today.

Search Behavior in a Region Granted 23,000 Patents a Year

According to the 2026 Silicon Valley Index from Joint Venture Silicon Valley, more than 23,000 utility patents were issued to inventors in the region in 2025, an estimate based on data through September. That number says something about your buyers: they work at the edge of their field, and the vocabulary they search with is often newer than the keyword tools.

For an SEO plan, three consequences follow:

  • Volume data understates demand. A query that a tool reports at “0 to 10” a month can be typed by every engineer evaluating your category this quarter. We judge keywords by who searches them, not only by how many.
  • Precision beats breadth. A page that answers “PCIe retimer vs. redriver” or “vector database latency under load” with real numbers wins the reader who will later sign a purchase order.
  • The language shifts fast. Category names in AI tooling change within a year. We track new terms in Google Search Console and adjust page titles before competitors notice.

This is also why generic monthly blog posts rarely move a deep-tech site. One well-documented technical page usually does more than ten articles written to fill a calendar.

An SEO Agency Silicon Valley Engineers Can Work With

Most technical SEO fixes end up in your engineering backlog, and engineering teams ignore vague requests. So we write recommendations the way your developers write tickets: one problem per ticket, the affected URLs, the expected behavior, how to test it on staging, and why it matters in one sentence.

Typical tickets on a Silicon Valley product site:

  1. Server-side rendering or prerendering for pages that ship empty HTML to crawlers.
  2. A docs platform on a subdomain that blocks Googlebot or duplicates the main site’s navigation.
  3. Staging and preview environments indexed by accident.
  4. Changelog and release-note pages that never link to the feature pages they describe.
  5. Faceted spec filters on hardware catalogs that generate thousands of near-identical URLs.
  6. Redirect chains left over from two rebrands and an acquisition.

We follow your release calendar, check each deploy against the tickets, and flag regressions before they show up in traffic. Our technical SEO audit checklist lists the 40 checks we start from.

Keyword Research That Starts in Your Support Queue

The best keywords for a technical product are already sitting in your own systems. Before we open a keyword tool, we ask for access to the places where customers describe their problems in their own words.

SourceWhat it revealsPage it often becomes
Support ticketsProblems customers hit after buyingTroubleshooting guides, integration pages
Docs search logsWhat developers can’t findNew docs pages, better headings
Sales call notesObjections and competitor namesComparison and “alternative to” pages
GitHub issues and forumsExact error messages and edge casesAnswer pages that rank for long queries
Search Console queriesTerms you already rank for on page twoQuick wins through title and content updates

The result is a keyword map tied to your funnel: research terms for engineers, evaluation terms for team leads, and purchase terms for procurement. Each target gets one page, so your own pages stop competing with each other. Want to see what your tickets and logs would reveal? Tell us what you can share, and we’ll scope the exercise.

Five French-Speaking Markets, Five Keyword Lists

French SEO for Silicon Valley companies usually begins with a shortcut that fails. When a Bay Area company expands into French-speaking markets, the first move is to translate the English keyword list. It doesn’t work. French buyers don’t search with translated American phrases, and French speakers in different countries don’t search the same way either.

The stakes are real. The 2026 report on the French language by the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie ranks French fourth among the languages present on the internet. Here is how we approach each market:

MarketWhat changes for SEOhreflang code
FranceLargest market, most local competition, English tech terms often kept as isfr-FR
BelgiumFrench and Dutch both matter; Brussels searches in bothfr-BE (and nl-BE if needed)
SwitzerlandFrench-speaking cantons in the west; Swiss spellings and prices in francsfr-CH
LuxembourgSmall, multilingual, finance-heavy; many B2B buyers also read Englishfr-LU
QuebecDistinct vocabulary; public bodies favor French terms over English loanwordsfr-CA

Our native French writers do the research in each market, check how competitors there name the category, and write pages from a French brief. For a SaaS-specific playbook, read our page on French SEO for SaaS; for site structure across countries, our international SEO guide covers subfolders, ccTLDs, and subdomains.

Hreflang Errors We Find on Bay Area Sites

Google’s documentation on localized versions, last updated September 21, 2026, is precise, and small mistakes make Google ignore the whole setup. These are the errors we fix most often:

  • Country codes used as language codes. Google supports only ISO 639-1 language codes and ISO 3166-1 Alpha 2 region codes. Under ISO 639-1, “be” means Belarusian and “ca” means Catalan, so hreflang=”be” doesn’t target Belgium and hreflang=”ca” doesn’t target Canada.
  • Missing return links. Every language version has to reference itself plus all its alternates; when page A lists page B but B never lists A, Google may ignore those annotations.
  • No x-default. Google uses this value as the fallback when no language or region matches the visitor’s browser setting.
  • Trusting the lang attribute. Google identifies a page’s language from the text itself, and its documentation is explicit that neither hreflang nor the lang attribute is used for that detection. A French page full of untranslated English blocks sends a mixed signal.
  • Canonical tags that point every French page to its English original, which tells Google the French pages aren’t meant to rank.

We fix these in your templates, not page by page, so the next hundred pages ship correctly.

Reporting a Board Can Read

Rankings are a means, not the goal. Each month you get a short report that connects organic search to demos, trials, and pipeline, with a separate view for each French-speaking market once those pages exist. We also track whether your brand shows up in AI answers, since many technical buyers now start there; our AI search optimization in Silicon Valley page explains that work in detail.

If you’re comparing options for a Silicon Valley SEO company, our address matters less than our languages. Our team lives in Belgium and Luxembourg, writes French natively, and knows how a buyer in Geneva phrases a query differently from one in Montreal. If you already work with a U.S. agency, we can take on only the French side. Our SEO agency services page describes our general method, the francophone markets as a whole are covered on our French-language marketing page, and the Silicon Valley hub lists everything we offer in the region.

Frequently Asked Questions About SEO in Silicon Valley

Should Our Developer Docs Live on a Subdomain or a Subfolder?

Both can rank. What matters more is that docs are crawlable, linked from the main site, and not duplicating its navigation and content. If you’re choosing now, a subfolder keeps signals in one place and is easier to report on. If your docs platform requires a subdomain, we make sure it’s verified in Search Console and linked properly in both directions.

Can SEO Help Before Our Category Has a Name?

Yes, but the work looks different. Instead of targeting a category term nobody searches yet, we target the problems your buyers already describe, the tools they use today, and the comparisons they make. When the category name settles, you’ll already have pages that rank for the questions around it.

Do Engineers Still Search on Google, or Only on GitHub and AI Assistants?

They use all of them, often in the same afternoon. An engineer may ask an AI assistant for options, check GitHub activity, then search Google for a specific benchmark or error message. Pages that answer those precise questions clearly tend to serve every one of those paths, which is why we focus on substance over volume.

How Do You Fit Into Our Sprint Planning?

We attend your planning when it helps and send tickets ahead of it. Each ticket is sized, prioritized by expected impact, and testable on staging. After each release, we check that the fixes shipped as intended and report what changed.

What Happens to Our Rankings When We Rename the Product?

A rename can cost traffic if old URLs, titles, and brand mentions disappear overnight. We map every URL that carries the old name, redirect it to its new equivalent, keep the old name on key pages for a transition period, and update partner and directory listings so that searches for either name lead to you.
