Launched in 2010, Google Hotel Ads will soon become part of Google AdWords, which is about to be renamed Google Ads. Here’s a look at the announcement Google made a few days ago.

Google chose its latest Google Marketing Live event to break the news: Hotel Ads, rebranded for the occasion as Hotel campaigns, will soon be fully integrated into Google Ads.

How Google Hotel Ads Work

For those new to it, let’s start with a quick refresher on Google Hotel Ads.

Hotel Ads promote hotels on Google.com and Google Maps, on desktop as well as on tablets and smartphones. Travelers can also book a room in just a few clicks.

It’s a paid service that works a lot like Google Ads (here’s how Google Ads works), since advertisers pay per click or per booking.

Google Hotel Ads are currently available in more than 150 countries.

Hotel Campaigns: Coming Soon

Advertisers have been happy with the opportunities Hotel Ads offer, but many said it was hard to manage these campaigns on a separate platform outside Google Ads, especially when they were also running AdWords campaigns.

The switch is expected by the end of 2018, and Hotel campaigns will also bring a number of improvements designed to make the tool easier to use. Until now, getting started required some technical development skills.

Where things stand in 2026: The move happened as planned. AdWords became Google Ads on July 24, 2018, and hotel advertisers now create and manage their hotel campaigns directly in Google Ads, alongside their other campaign types. Google Maps has since opened up to other formats as well, such as Demand Gen campaigns on Google Maps.
