Google has made its AI-powered configuration available to all Search Console users. The feature lets you set up the Performance report by simply describing, in plain English, the analysis you want to see. It first appeared as a limited experiment in December 2025, and Google announced in February 2026 that it was open to everyone.

What Is AI-Powered Configuration in Search Console?

AI-powered configuration is built directly into the Performance report in Google Search Console. Instead of setting filters, comparisons, and metrics by hand, you can now:

  • describe in natural language what you want to analyze;
  • let the AI turn your request into report settings;
  • get a report that adjusts automatically to your question.

For example, you can ask Search Console to show you “mobile queries with a high CTR over the last 6 months” or “the pages that get the most clicks from a specific country.”

Why This Feature Matters for SEO

Faster Report Setup

Analyzing a performance report usually means you have to:

  • select filters manually (query, country, device);
  • choose date ranges;
  • pick the right metrics.

With AI-powered configuration, all of these steps can be handled from a single plain-language request.

Three Things the AI Configures for You

The tool automatically handles:

  1. Metric selection: clicks, impressions, average CTR, and average position.
  2. Filters: by query, page, country, device, search appearance, or date range.
  3. Comparisons: for example, between two separate date ranges.

That cuts the time spent building a report and leaves more time for the analysis itself.

Limitations and Best Practices

Even though the configuration is generated for you, Google warns that the AI can misinterpret some requests, especially ambiguous or complex ones. So it’s important to:

  • check the filters and settings the tool applied before drawing conclusions;
  • treat the feature as an assistant, not as the final word on a decision.

At launch, the feature works only on the Search results data in the Performance report, not on Discover or Google News data. It configures the report but doesn’t sort the table or export data for you.

What It Means for SEO Teams and Businesses

More Efficiency

SEO specialists, consultants, and marketing managers can build complex views in seconds instead of clicking through configuration menus.

Easier Access for Non-Technical Users

Small business owners and less technical teams get a more approachable way to understand their search performance without advanced expertise.

A Smarter Search Console

The feature shows how Google is bringing AI not only into search itself but also into the tools SEO professionals use every day. If you’re new to the platform, our Google Search Console guide walks through the reports that matter most.

AI-powered configuration isn’t a gimmick. It’s a meaningful step toward more intuitive, personalized SEO reporting, and it helps teams like ours spend less time on setup and deliver insights to clients faster.

In short:

  • analyze your data with a simple plain-language request;
  • save time on report setup;
  • focus on interpretation and recommendations instead of technical settings.

What’s Changed Since Launch

Search Console has kept adding features in 2026, including a report on your social channels. As of August 31, 2026, Google had rolled out a generative AI performance report and a site-level control for AI features such as AI Overviews and AI Mode to all websites worldwide. These sit alongside AI-powered configuration and are worth reviewing if AI search visibility matters to your business. Google’s own guide to optimizing for AI Overviews is a good companion read.
