Marketers can now use new Facebook tools to create video ads designed for mobile devices. The tools add motion to images and text to produce lightweight, mobile-first videos.

Facebook announced in a blog post that it has rolled out tools that let advertisers create video ads optimized for mobile, mainly smartphones. Why now? According to Facebook, video has become one of the best ways to connect with people on mobile, so its engineers set out to give advertisers an easy way to build videos made for mobile users.

According to figures shared by Facebook, mobile-first video ads were 27% more likely to drive brand awareness and 23% more likely to drive message association than video ads that weren’t optimized for smartphones.

What Do the New Video Tools Include?

1. Video Creation Kit

This tool turns images and text into videos optimized for smartphones (square 1:1 for News Feed and vertical 9:16 for Stories on Facebook and Instagram). It comes with four templates built around your goals:

  • Promote a product (6 seconds)
  • Sell products (6 seconds)
  • Show a product’s benefits (15 seconds)
  • Introduce a product (15 seconds)

2. Video Cropping

This tool lets you crop videos to Facebook’s recommended formats (1:1 and 4:5 for News Feed, 16:9 for in-stream, and 9:16 for Stories). For still images, our social media image sizes cheat sheet covers each network.

3. Simple Video Creation Tools

Advertisers who create ads directly from their business Page will find this one especially useful. It lets you quickly build videos from the assets already on your Page (photos, company logos, and so on). In just a few clicks, you can create an eye-catching video that works on mobile devices.

Where Things Stand in 2026

Facebook’s parent company has been called Meta since October 2021. Vertical 9:16 video is still the standard format for Stories and Reels on Facebook and Instagram, so the mobile-first approach these tools introduced has only become more important. A few weeks after these tools, Facebook also launched 3D photos in News Feed. If you’re building a campaign around these formats, start with our guide to planning a digital ad campaign.
