Looking for a job without ever leaving your favorite social network? Facebook has made it happen. The world’s largest social network now offers a feature dedicated entirely to job search, and it’s going global. Here’s what you need to know.

Scouring the classifieds, browsing staffing agency websites, checking job boards, trying to stand out on LinkedIn, or knocking on doors: until now, those were a job seeker’s main options. Now there’s a new player to reckon with, and not a small one: Facebook.

You may have already noticed a new button on the platform Mark Zuckerberg founded and still runs. It leads to a full-fledged service of its own: Facebook Jobs. Let’s take a closer look.

Can You Really Find a Job on Facebook?

People in the U.S. and Canada have been able to find jobs through Facebook since February 2017. The feature has just expanded to 42 more countries.

Facebook’s stated ambition with Facebook Jobs is to help people find work and help businesses find the right people.

With 2.1 billion users and some 70 million businesses active on Facebook worldwide, the potential is huge.

How Facebook Jobs Works

If You’re Looking for a Job

To see the openings posted on the network, go to the dedicated Jobs section. You’ll see a list of postings, by default from businesses near you.

Narrowing your search is easy: you can choose a location, pick an industry, or filter by job type. Found a job you like? Click it and hit “Apply Now.” Facebook then shows an application pre-filled with the information you’ve already shared on your profile. In other words, you can apply for a job in just a few clicks.

“Finding a job is quick, easy and free.”

If You’re a Business Looking to Hire

If you’re a business that wants to post a job for Facebook users, the process is much the same. Go to the same Jobs section, click “Post a Job,” and fill in the fields. That’s all there is to it.

A Promising Feature

Facebook Jobs also lets candidates save job postings and set up alerts. Candidates can also contact employers through Messenger, for example to learn more about the role or make their case.

Facebook adds that the information shared with employers will be limited to what’s visible on users’ public profiles, nothing more.

A Serious Competitor for LinkedIn?

Should LinkedIn, the professional network, be worried? No one can say yet. Facebook remains the largest of the most popular social media platforms, and plenty of businesses are active on it, but it’s impossible to predict how many will actually use the feature.

A Social Network That Keeps Expanding

What’s certain is that Facebook keeps reinventing itself, which some would say is a necessity given ever-fiercer competition. Just a few weeks ago, Facebook also announced plans to take on Tinder and similar apps with its own dating feature.

Where Things Stand in 2026

Facebook Dating launched in the U.S. in September 2019. Facebook Jobs, on the other hand, didn’t last everywhere: in February 2022, Meta shut it down in every country except the U.S. and Canada. Meta has kept adding other features, such as new tools for Facebook Groups in 2022.
