Meta Rolls Out 6 New Updates for Facebook Groups
Meta is rolling out six Facebook Groups updates, including Reels and new management tools for admins.
With these updates, members can share more types of content, and admins get better tools to manage their communities.
Here are the six new tools and features coming to Facebook Groups:
- Reels in Facebook Groups
- Sharing Facebook Group events to Instagram Stories
- Customizable Facebook Group profiles
- Recognition for community members
- Updates to Admin Assist
- Letting admins allow content that Facebook flagged automatically
As a social media marketing agency, we break down what Meta just launched, what it means for brands and community managers, and how it fits into an effective social media strategy.
1. Reels in Facebook Groups
Facebook users can now create and share Reels directly within groups.
Until now, to share a Reel in a Facebook Group, you had to publish it somewhere else on Facebook first, then share it to the group.
Now you can upload a Reel straight to the group, which is ideal for private communities. If short video is already part of your social media content calendar, groups give it one more outlet.
2. Share Facebook Group Events to Instagram Stories
You can now share links to Facebook Group events in your Instagram Story.
The feature is available to both members and admins, and it can be an effective way to grow a community around recurring events. Our article on seasonal content marketing explains why those calendar moments matter.
3. Customize Facebook Group Profiles
You can now customize the “About” section of your group profile to highlight whatever information matters to the community.
Admins and members can also add an indicator to their profile showing they’re open to messages. It tells other members you’re happy to connect directly.
4. Recognize Your Group’s Community Members
Facebook is testing a new way for admins to highlight the members who contribute most to the community, whether they take on an active role with specific responsibilities or receive reactions and comments on their posts.
In a similar test, Facebook is also working on a way for admins to recognize members who go out of their way to make others feel welcome.
5. Updates to Admin Assist
Facebook is updating Admin Assist, its automated moderation tool, with more ways to moderate and act on content.
Group admins can now automatically move posts containing information rated false by third-party fact-checkers into pending posts, so they can review them before removing them.
To help admins see how Admin Assist is helping them manage their community, Facebook is adding a daily digest. It summarizes the actions Admin Assist took in the group, based on the criteria the admins set.
6. Let Admins Allow Content Flagged by Facebook
Facebook is testing an option that lets eligible group admins use their own judgment to allow content flagged by Facebook’s automated moderation system.
For example, the admin of a group for aquarium enthusiasts could choose to allow an automatically flagged comment calling a fish “fat,” when it clearly wasn’t meant to offend.
Meta uses several criteria to decide which groups are eligible, including that the admin must not have previously run a group that was taken down.
